I never really believed in crazy success stories when people achieve brilliant studies, don’t go out much and don’t experience the world. I see the bigger picture. There can be no good achievement without any fun. And I’m not only talking about enjoying what you’re studying or working on but what you do on a side to have a great life. Studies, work, party, beer (responsibly and not if you’re under age), travel, food, family, friends and love (and not in this order) is a fully complementary thing ending up in your life’s balance.
This is the moment when everyone’s put their studies and hassles on the side, dress up their overall and spend hell of a good moment dancing, meeting and talking with your friends and new people.
I clearly recall my first day here in Jönköping. I arrived a warm, early day in august, at the time you cannot believe this place can be cold as hell in winter. Despite it wasn’t my first time in Sweden, choosing a place for studying is always a gambling on what your future will be about. For me it was more strategic since very few schools in Europe offers master program fully focused on entrepreneurship. You start on a blank page and build everything from scratch, in a city you know nothing about.
Starting my master at JIBS, I had to settle and stay in some cities before during my bachelor and my exchange, and by far Jönköping offered me the best welcome ever.
It’s always hard to settle in a city you know nothing about. The school got you covered with the kick-off, the first two weeks consists in activities showing you around the city and school as well as helping students to meet each other. A detail to mention, is your (fancy as hell) outfit, the overall, uniting school around the green colour.
Sweden is in general really good at introducing new students and make them feel part of something, but Jönköping would be the extra-mile university. Doing everything, but better. This time was so good I decided to commit and give back organising and improving the student life on campus, joining Sexkreation, the social committee of the JSA at JIBS. With my squad, we now organise events such as sittnings, work volonteer at the student club Akademien and of course organise the kick-off. Our one goal is to make all students feel involved and part of something from day one.
Jönköping means everything to me. This is where I’m living my last months as a student taking advantage of the best of what the student life has to offer here. For those of you starting your studies next term or in your first years, there’s but one rule, work hard, play hard.
Thomas is a French full-time masters student at JIBS who is also an IT/videomaster at Sexkreation. When he is not studying, you can always find him partying and working hard at Akademien!
