My name is Nicolas, I’m an exchange student from France. I’m a polyglot, I speak four languages… no I’m kidding, I’m French, therefore I only speak French…
My name is Nicolas, I’m an exchange student from France. I did an exchange semester in Jönkö… hmmm where? I’m still not able to pronounce it properly. I choose Jönköping University because one of my friends studied there two years ago and told me it was the best time of his life. He met lots of people, travelled and partied a lot. Moreover, the courses were interesting; and he told me “you don’t need to study that much”. (Of course, what I didn’t know is that he didn’t study at JIBS, but at the school of communication…never mind!).
Then I decided to put JU as my first choice (apparently I was almost the only one) to study abroad. For my parents, I was about to study in one of the most serious country in term of education. For my friends, I was about to flirt with tall blonde girls.
I arrived in January, as a baby discovering the snow, the cold and the sunset at 4. I arrived and landed in the furan Accommodation with around 20 people from all around the world. I can say, now, that most of the guys I met there are like a second family.
Then everything started with the kick off. Thanks to this event, I met so many people and very good friends. I also had the opportunity to meet my awesome buddy. Thanks to the buddy program I had the chance to meet my favorite customer service on earth (I asked her thousands of questions within the semester). I think she’s feeling in holidays without me now.
I took few days or weeks to get used to the Swedish way of life. But after few weeks I was feeling like a fish to water, I was feeling like a Swede. I was walking on the lake, going to ice Hockey game and picking some chocolates at Go banana. I started learning few Swedish words like “hej hej” “tack Tack”… not that complicated so far. As time went by, Sweden became like a second home and I really liked the Swedish way of life (even if I still don’t get why we need to go to one specific shop to buy alcohol…).
I also had the opportunity to travel to Lapland (with the student union), Estonia, Russia, Finland and Denmark. I went to so many awesome places! I enjoyed a lot my trips. I also enjoyed my student life in Jönköping.
The University is very good, I’ve learned a lot thanks to my courses. The campus is quite big and the facilities are very good to study in. I also enjoyed the way Swedish students welcomed the international students to make us discover the Swedish culture (the fika time!). All the events organized by JSA, the international office or JU are also a very good way to discover each others.
I really enjoyed my time at Akademien as well. Thanks to this club I’ve learned few things. After hundreds of test over there, I know that I don’t like Tequila. After few parties there, I know that “Barby girl” is not my favorite song… I’ve also learned that too much Akademien can lead you to the re-exam. Hopefully, after plenty of studying hours, I passed all my courses and I went back to France with all my credits.
Overall, this semester has definitely been an amazing experience. I met awesome people, great places, a good university and an amazing culture. I would love to live this experience again and again! Back home, I’m really glad to be able to say to my friends and family that I discovered an amazing country and the most important : I speak Swedish fluently… no I’m kidding, I’m still French…
Tack så mycket Sverige!
